Neck Pain Exercises

Neck pain is a common medical condition & most of the adult population suffers from this problem at some point of time in their life. The neck pain may be due to improper habits/postures in our daily routine life, lackluster life style, and misalignment in the spine, injury, stress, muscular tightness or any other health problems. Bad sleeping habits like sleeping on stomach (when you have to keep your head 90 degrees to side), using very thick or thin pillow, working long hours on desk/computer, viewing TV in awkward position or traveling for long hours in sitting position, improper/excess exercises or work outs, are the main causes of stiffness, soreness, cramp or neck pain. The neck is composed of vertebrae along with the ligaments that provide stability to the spine.

There are several exercises that can not only stretch the neck to ease pain, but also will help to stretch the shoulders and upper back. These are easy activities that can be done several times a day and they aren't strenuous, so start your day with these exercises and keep going with them whenever you're feeling a little tight or tense.

If you have to look down a lot, for example a person who is sewing or working on a laptop then do this every hour or so, if not do it 5-6 times per day. But remember, if you do have to look down to do your tasks, keep your chin comfortably tucked in rather than jutted out straining your ligaments.

Some of the easiest neck exercises are rotating the neck in a clockwise fashion. Just bend the neck. Let your chin touch your chest. Now, roll your head to your right, so that your ear touches your shoulder. After that, slowly and steadily roll your head backwards towards your left shoulder until your left ear is able to touch your left shoulder. Is not this extremely easy to do? Now, bring back your head to the original position, and repeat for another 20 rolls.
